AMREI FIEDLER

Behind the artist

Stories are everywhere. You just have to look closely.

Amrei Fiedler is a freelance illustrator from Hamburg who studied illustration at the HAW Hamburg. Her work can be found in children's books, magazines, and projects for publishers and institutions, among others. She particularly enjoys telling little stories with her pictures and finds her ideas where life happens: in everyday situations, in her family, and in the people and animals around her.

Her style combines narrative illustration with humor, charm, and an eye for the small, sometimes slightly quirky moments of everyday life. This is exactly how her REFLECTIVE Artist Edition was born: a piece of Hamburg that now travels on bicycles, helmets, and through the streets.

Greetings from Hamburg!

For her REFLECTIVE Artist Edition, illustrator Amrei Fiedler has created a little world full of North German charm. Screeching seagulls, raindrops, fish heads, and a gang of animal cyclists tell the story of getting around the city. Sometimes quirky, sometimes playful, and always with that little spark of humor that defines Amrei's illustrations.

The designs are made for the outdoors. On bicycles, helmets, and other smooth surfaces, they accompany you through everyday life and get a second performance in the spotlight: this is when the illustrations reflect incoming light and become visible in the dark. In this way, Amrei's art, inspired by daily life, becomes a part of everyday life once again. A little full-circle moment you can stick on.

Produktdetails

Lieferumfang und Anwendung

A sticker sheet measuring 115x105mm with 13 reflective stickers

The stickers are designed for smooth, solid surfaces.
They are not suitable for textiles or rigid foam (Urban Arrow) surfaces.
The surface must be dry and free of grease and dirt particles.
The outside temperature during application must not be below 10° Celsius and should ideally be around room temperature.
The adhesive bonds with the surface over 1-2 days until maximum adhesion is reached. Removing the stickers afterwards can prove to be quite fiddly. Mechanical action is more effective than chemicals for removal.

Material und Pflege

The stickers are made of a reflective film from the traffic safety sector, which is used for hazard markings, traffic signs, and information signs in outdoor areas. The reflective film meets the requirements of EN12899-1 and is characterized by its durability and absolute resistance to weather, corrosion, and solvents. Temperatures from -50° to +80° Celsius do not affect the material.

The retro-reflection is created by tiny glass beads applied to a transparent plastic layer that reflect light back to its source. The surface is made of alkyd resin, and the adhesive is solvent polyacrylate. Full reflective properties are guaranteed for at least 7 years.

The printed colors are UV-resistant and scratch-proof, meaning no fading due to sunlight or loss of color due to weather or everyday wear and tear.

The thickness of the stickers is approximately 0.1 mm.

Once the stickers have been applied correctly, you can sit back and relax. Bad weather will not affect them. If they get dirty, you can safely wipe the film clean with water or standard household cleaners.

Produktion

The production site for the raw material is located in Brandenburg, further processing takes place in Berlin, including the use of workshops for people with disabilities, and we handle shipping ourselves from our headquarters in Prenzlauer Berg. We are thus able to map our entire value chain regionally. It lies within a 35km radius of our store.

Im Gespräch mit

AMREI FIEDLER

Where do Amrei’s ideas come from, how does Hamburg's gloomy weather become a sticker design, and what happens when illustrations suddenly reflect at night? We spoke with Amrei about her inspiration, the design process, and the special full-circle moment of her REFLECTIVE Artist Edition.

What inspires you and your work, and how would you describe your own style?

My inspiration usually comes from the everyday. There is so much in those little moments—for instance, when my dog starts imitating human words, one of my children asks me endless questions, or the evening light turns taking out the trash into a dramatic scene. I like narrative illustrations with a spark of humor and charm.

How did you go about designing your REFLECTIVE Artist Edition?

When choosing the motifs, I thought of a family out and about. At dusk, perhaps in autumn.

Since I live in Hamburg, screeching seagulls and, of course, the occasional raindrop immediately came to mind. Because "Schietwetter" (lousy weather) doesn't stop us from exploring the city. The biggest challenge was finding clearly legible shapes and figures that work both during the day and with night-time reflection.

What changes for you when your art suddenly reflects?

This is truly special to me! It’s how my illustrations, inspired by my everyday life, make their way into the daily lives and journeys of the people who carry them. A full-circle moment, so to speak.
